Opening on January 12, 2012, the Tamarack Club at Ellicottville’s Holiday Valley will host an exhibition of new work by established regional artist Sean Huntington. “To Walk Among the Hills” will feature work inspired by the local surrounding landscape and visitors can expect to see the artist’s signature striking, vibrant, contemporary watercolors.
Sean Huntington first showed his work with artist Terry Saye at the Tamarack Club during the 2011 Routes to Art open studio tour. This venue, a timeshare, hotel, spa and restaurant facility at Holiday Valley Ski Resort, boasts expansive meeting spaces ideal of the display of artwork. The seed was planted for a full exhibition of artwork and throughout the summer Sean began developing a plan for the show, considering layout, management of sales in a non-conventional exhibit space, advertising, and the creation of a catalogue. Tamarack Club management was thrilled with the proposal and are viewing the exhibition as a way to attract new patrons and give visitors added value during their stay.
“To Walk Among the Hills” will feature paintings with many shared elements, namely subject matter, presentation, and style. Sean has become known for his large-scale watercolor portraits of trees and depictions of the Western New York and Pennsylvania landscape. These unique images are created using a latex resist method wherein masking fluid is painted onto paper followed by layers of watercolor and goache. The liquid latex is then removed to reveal the underpainting beneath. Each piece is then coated with a UV protective sealant and edged in metal, giving an industrial contrast to the natural themes.
The exhibition will run from January 12th- February 22nd at the Tamarack Club at Holiday Valley. Meet the artist, see Sean's techniques, and view additional work the weekends of January 14-15 and February 18-19 from noon to eight pm. All work will be available for sale via Sean’s website and a catalogue will accompany the exhibition.
